Where is Playa Grande Resort located?
Playa Grande Resort is located at the very tip of the
Baja Peninsula. Although this destination is known as
Los Cabos it is made up of three distinct geographical
areas. The San Jose Del Cabo area is located up by the
airport and a good 40 minutes from the tip. Many of
the all inclusive resorts are found in San Jose.
The Corridor is the second area and refers to the long
stretch of road that
connects San Jose to the tip. Many of the larger hotel
chains are found in this area. The last and best area
is Cabo San Lucas, nestled on the shore of San Lucas
Bay right at the tip of the Baja Peninnsula. Cabo has
always been a bit more popular than the others due to
the fact that the only marina and most activities and
night life are found here. Solmar Suites, located on
a secluded Cabo San Lucas beach, offers the perfect
blend of private oceanfront facilities close to all
that Cabo San Lucas has to offer.
Does Playa
Grande offer airport transportation?
The taxi unions in Mexico will not allow individual
hotel owned shuttles but getting in from the airport
is easy. After passing through immigration and customs
look for the "Authorized Taxi" shuttle booth
and buy a ticket to Solmar. Prices are about $13 U.S.
dollars per person. Remember this is at least a 40 minute
ride. We also offer transfers through Cape Travel for
$25 roundtrip. These must be booked 2 weeks in advance
through our office in California and only by phone at
800-344-3349. Private cars and limo service are also
offered through Cape Travel.
Will I need
to rent a car while I am there?
Playa Grande is only a 10 minute walk from downtown
Cabo San Lucas and even less to the sportfishing dock
so you can really get by fine without a car. Taxis are
always on call at all hotels and although a little on
the expensive side you are usually not going very far
or as mentioned, you can walk. You might consider a
car rental for one day to go exploring up to San Jose
or to Todos Santos which is a one hour drive up the
Pacific side and known for its international artist
colony. Car rentals are available at our activity desk
in the lobby.
Is the beach
at Playa Grande a swimming beach?
Although the beach can be rough and not recommended
for swimming you can get to the main public beach by
a short walk to the dock and taking a quick water taxi
ride for about 3 dollars. This public beach is the only
swimming beach in the immediate area of Cabo San Lucas
and gets quite busy. Its a great place to spend
the day and try parasailing or waverunners but when
you are ready to relax, come back to Playa Grande and
there are no crowds or noise on our beach. We really
do offer the "Best of Both Worlds" where you
can enjoy the main beach or relax on our uncrowded,
secluded beach. We also have 3 pools two of which are
right next to the sand. For a real treat take a water
taxi to Lovers Beach out by the famous arch.
Do you have
blow dryers & irons in the rooms?
Since Cabo is a very "casual" destination,
most people dont worry too much about these items.
If you need a blow dryer, bring it. As for irons, they
are available through the front desk or you can use
our ironing service for a nominal fee.
Should I change
money before I go?
U.S. dollars are readily accepted all over Cabo but
the best exchange rates are at the hotels and banks.
The peso has been hovering between 9 to 10 pesos
to 1 dollar but this can change so please ask when you
arrive. Also Major credit cards such as Visa and Mastercard
are accepted at our hotel.
What is the
child policy?
Your child must be under 12 years old to be considered
a child. One child under 12 stays free and two children
under 12 are charged as one adult. Someimes in the summer
this policy is relaxed to two children under 12 free
so ask when you call.
What are
the weather and seasons like?
Cabo is blessed with some of the best climate on earth.
Nov through June the air temps stay in the 80s
and 90s F during the day and rain is scarce. Jan-Mar
are especially popular with the evenings cooling down
enough to use a long sleeved shirt or light sweater.
July to October heats up a bit with the warmest months
being August and September with temps in the high 90sF.
This is the time of year when rain is possible and although
we do occasionally deal with storms they usually are
not severe due to our location at the northern reaches
of the tropical storm belt. Water temps are warmest
in July through December reaching the low 80sF
at this time.
Are the wall sockets regular
110 volts like the U.S.?
Yes, our electricity is the same as you have in the
United States so no adapters are needed. All small appliances
such as blow dryers and laptops should work fine.
What phone number should I leave
for emergencies?
To call the hotel from the United States you would
dial 011-52-624-143-7575 and ask the operator for the
room by guest name. For dialing from other countries
52(mexico country code)-624(city code) 143-7575(local
number).
Is the water
safe to drink?
Although all water at Playa Grande comes from an artesian
well and is purified it is recommended to buy bottled
water for drinking. Bathing and brushing your teeth
is no problem with our water but when it comes to drinking
it is always better to buy bottled when traveling. Bottled
water is available at our gift shop.
What
travel documents do I need?
For American citizens proof of citizenship is all that
is required for travel to
Mexico. You will be asked to fill out a Mexican Tourist
Card on your flight down by the airline. This is the
only requirement for U.S. citizens. Check with the airlines
as far as acceptable documents for proof of citizenship.
For
non-American citizens check with your airline or the
local Mexican Consulate for current requirements regarding
visas.
